I grew up in a little village in the middle of the Siberian Taiga near. At the local school, there were artists and artisans that ignited my passion for creative woodwork. At the age of 15 I started training as a carpenter.
What brought me to Germany was a voluntary year. This is where I met boat builder André Rießler, who told me about birch-bark canoes built and used by Siberian people.
Back in my home country, I started researching the ancient building method. But there was almost nothing to find about Siberian birch-bark canoes. So I taught myself, supported by Canadian sources, and gained expertise in this craft.
Equipped with only a few simple tools, I moved to the Taiga for a few weeks along with three friends and we built our first birch-bark canoe. Over the next few years another 20 canoes followed.
In 2021 I decided to turn my passion into a full-time job. Since then I’ve been running my own workshop in Southern Germany, where I build unique pieces upon request. I am very passionate about reviving the canoe forms of my Siberian home country in the years to come. My partner Alena supports me in this endeavor.
